Long regarded as a local institution, the community college has become a globalized institution. It has been affected by global forces, and by the interpretations of organizational members to both global forces and to the responses of intermediaries. Globalization as a process finds an outlet within the community college where economic, cultural, and technological behaviors are advanced along lines consistent with and supportive of globalization. Furthermore, government actions have directed community colleges to respond and adapt to a global economy. In this book, seven community colleges are examined to demonstrate organizational change in the 1990s precipitated by globalization.

These lines are nested within historical, social, cultural, and political contexts of two nations—the US and Canada—two provinces and three states: Alberta, British Columbia, California, Hawai’i, and Washington. The author studies the development of the community college and the development of the university from community college origins, bringing to the forefront these seven individual stories. Palgrave Macmillan US Religion and Ethics in a Globalizing World Palgrave Macmillan US Religion and Ethics in a Globalizing World 53.49 EUR Around the world religion is an increasingly vital and pervasive force in both personal and public life. Though this trend has been widely noted, its long-term implications are as yet only dimly perceived. Will this be a force for healing or for violence? To express the question to its most dramatic, yet urgent form: can the world's major religious traditions respond constructively to contemporary challenges in the public sphere that are now, by definition, global? Religion and Ethics in a Globalizing World seeks to address this question, and to contribute to a greater understanding of the role of religion in the paradoxical context of a world that is increasingly unified, but which remains fundamentally plural.

The contributors of International Business Realisms analyze instances of interdisciplinary marketing and branding for the global market place and distill practical implications for effective international and domestic marketing.
Palgrave Macmillan US Globalizing Lynching History Palgrave Macmillan US Globalizing Lynching History 53.49 EUR The study of lynching in US history has become a well-developed area of scholarship. Palgrave Macmillan US Globalizing Concern for Women's Human Rights Palgrave Macmillan US Globalizing Concern for Women's Human Rights 53.49 EUR This study is a critique of the institutional structures and cultural dynamics that pose obstructions to U.S. ratification. The United States is a liberal democratic state founded upon ideals of freedom and equality, thus the history of non-ratification of major international human rights treaties appears to be an anomaly. This book suggests that it is not. Liberal democracy, as it was conceived and has developed in the United States, is problematic as a model in the globalization of concern for women's human rights. This study is not a comparative examination of state exclusion and oppression of women. Neither is it an attempt to distinguish the United States in the larger sense from other Western liberal democratic regimes in its treatment of women. Rather, the study is a gender-sensitive examination of specific dynamics and characteristics inherent to the socio-political, economic, and legal systems of the United States which have precluded incorporation of the rights of women on an equal basis with the rights of men. The interaction of these dynamics and characteristics describes a uniquely American view of itself and its own history which serves to render the U.S. system troublesome as an examplar for state incorporation of the human rights of women. Unreserved ratification of CEDAW constitutes a strong indication of effort, by the ratifying state, to protect the human rights of women. The United States has refused to ratify CEDAW.

Palgrave Macmillan US Globalizing Ideal Beauty Palgrave Macmillan US Globalizing Ideal Beauty 106.99 EUR Globalizing Ideal Beauty is the forgotten history of a group of women copywriters whose successful ad campaigns went international in the 1920s and spread an American notion of feminine appeal from Bangor to Bangkok. Sutton's approach is grounded in a huge body of original archival research that has so far remained largely untapped.
